Luma
A creative, retro-inspired Spotify controller
Luma is a compact, portable device for controlling Spotify without distractions. Its playful, nostalgic design is inspired by a vintage macintosh computer and college dorm aesthetics. It features a display for song info, three control buttons, and a volume knob. Luma is fun, functional, and always there for you.
Ideation & Brainstorming
- Explored various form factors and packaging ideas, from traditional to playful (like the turtle design)
- Sketched and abandoned several concepts before landing on the final look
- Major design challenge: fitting all components into a compact, unique package
Prototyping & Building
- Most of the process was coding and debugging the interface and API connections
- Challenges included working with a non-standard display, connecting the ESP chip, and soldering components
- Final build used a nail clipper box as the base for a unique, upcycled look
